Company and Product News

Starting today, customers in the US, UK, Canada, and Spain can send money to 14 countries through WhatsApp — including India, Mexico, and the Philippines. And for the first time, the transfer doesn’t have to start with the sender.

Recipients in Mexico Can Now Request Money
We’re introducing a new feature called “Request Money” that lets recipients who bank with Elektra in Mexico initiate transfer requests. The sender gets a secure checkout link and can initiate the transfer in seconds — all via WhatsApp, no app download required. No branch visit. No extra steps. Just a few taps from wherever you are. It’s a small change with a real impact: the people you send money to now have a say in how that money moves.

Designed for How You Already Communicate
WhatsApp is the platform millions of people trust to stay connected with family every day. For many Remitly customers, it’s where conversations about money naturally happen — checking in on a parent, coordinating support after an emergency, celebrating a milestone from thousands of miles away. We want sending money to feel like a natural part of those conversations, not a separate errand.

That means no new app to download, no new platform to learn, and no reason to leave the comfort of home to get it done. Just open WhatsApp, and go.

Josue, a Remitly customer in Canada who sends to family in Colombia, described his first experience: “It actually makes it a lot easier. You’re opening a WhatsApp message and within a few seconds you’re done. One communication channel so you’re not looking for info in various channels.”

How It Works

  • Initiate a Transfer. Message Remitly’s WhatsApp account and start a transfer in seconds.
  • Verify & Confirm. Receive a real-time exchange rate and a breakdown of fees before sending.
  • Track & Support. Check your transaction status and contact support, all within WhatsApp.

Multiple payment options are available to fit your preferences. Whether you’re paying with a debit card, credit card, or bank account, we’ve got you. Remitly’s global network provides access to millions of bank accounts and mobile wallets, and tens of thousands of cash pickup options in the countries currently supported on Whatsapp.
