Community and Social Impact

Remitly is proud to continue its tradition of celebrating the Muslim community in London by sponsoring Iftar dinners at seven mosques throughout the city this Ramadan for the second consecutive year. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a sacred time for millions of Muslims worldwide, dedicated to fasting, introspection, and prayer, aiming to foster spiritual growth and community ties. A pillar of Islam, Ramadan entails fasting from dawn to sunset, culminating in the Iftar meal, a tradition of breaking fast at sundown with family and friends.

For the nearly 4 million Muslims living in London, Ramadan is a time of giving, community, and reflection. Remitly will honor the spirit of giving and community by distributing water and dates — traditionally used to break the daily fast — in addition to Ramadan prayer timing calendars at East London Mosque, Stanmore Mosque, Muslim Welfare Mosque, Mile End Mosque, Harrow Leisure Centre, Hounslow Jamia Masjid, and Feltham Mosque.

Remitly is also the exclusive FinTech sponsor for Ramadan Tent Project’s Open Iftar events, the UK’s largest community event during Ramadan. Ramadan Tent Project is an award-winning charity that aims to bring communities together, fostering a spirit of unity and understanding.  Remitly’s sponsorship will support events at Battersea Arts Centre, AFC Wimbledon, Guildhall, QPR, and The British Library.
