At Remitly, we believe that love transcends distance, and perhaps nothing is more true than the love shared between mothers, caregivers, and their families. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, we honor the everyday heroes who show up with quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and powerful love, no matter where in the world they may be.
For mothers around the world, sending money is not just a financial transaction—it’s an act of care. It’s a way to stay connected, offer support, celebrate milestones, and to navigate hard times together, even from across oceans.
This Mother’s Day, we’re proud to share the stories of two inspiring Remitly customers, EnriLyn and Lailane, who embody the strength and compassion of motherhood in different, but equally powerful ways.
“Even from across the world, I can still be the mother-figure for my nephew.”
– Lailane “Lani”, Remitly customer for over 4 years
When Lailane’s sister passed away, she didn’t hesitate to step in and raise her then one-year-old nephew, Christian, as her own. Balancing motherhood with her job as an insurance administrator in the US, Lani has always made sure he had everything he needed, even from thousands of miles away.
Whether it’s a monthly allowance to support his education or a hospital emergency in the middle of the night, Lani trusts Remitly to quickly and reliably send money.
“I remember when he was rushed to the hospital,” she recalls. “Even though it was the middle of the night here in the U.S., I was able to send money right away through Remitly. He was able to get the care that he needed and it made all the difference.”
For years, Lani’s son Ludwig believed Christian was his biological brother because of the equal care and affection Lani showed both of them. When they both turned ten, they learned the truth, but their bond never wavered. Instead, it grew stronger. “We’re a family,” Lani says, affirming her role as Christian’s mother.
“Remitly has helped me show my family how much I love them.”
– Enrilyn “Lyn”, Remitly customer for over 4 years
We’re celebrating the strength, love, and sacrifices of mothers, like Lyn’s, whose impact is felt across miles. The money Lyn sends is more than financial support, it’s a heartfelt way of honoring and thanking her mother for a lifetime of care and devotion.
When Lyn moved from the Philippines to the US in 2019, her first concern wasn’t settling into a new job or adapting to a new culture, it was making sure she could still support her mother and father back home.
“Family is everything for us Filipinos,” she shares. “When I left home, my responsibilities didn’t stop. I still had to make sure my parents had their medicine and our household bills were covered.”
Last year, Remitly had the privilege of arranging a reunion for Lyn and her mom in the Philippines – a moment made even more meaningful after her mother lost her eyesight. “She knows me now through my voice and touch,” Lyn says of her mom. “Being with her again meant everything.”
For over four years now, Lyn has relied on Remitly to stay connected with her family through every season, from birthdays and holidays to moments of illness and crisis.
One of the hardest moments came when Typhoon Ulysses hit Marikina City in 2020. Her childhood home was submerged in floodwaters for the second time in a decade, destroying what her family had worked so hard to build. Lyn was thousands of miles away, but she knew she could still help.
“I was so grateful I could send money instantly through Remitly. It gave me peace of mind in one of the most stressful moments of my life.”
